Mixórdia... SA plus MP.

Nova Proper..

«Featuring all manner of general aceness, Issue 8 of Proper Magazine is now finally upon us.

With more colour than before and a little revamp it is easily the best one yet and features exclusive interviews with the people behind various clothing brands, such as 6876, Heritage Research, Universal Works and tuk tuk.

It also has two great interviews, one with DJ Godfather Greg Wilson (that is 7 pages long!) and one with co-founder of Manchester's Oi Polloi, in which he talks about growing up on the outskirts of the city and his plans for the shop in the future.

In amongst it is the usual light hearted messing about, observational stuff and some brilliant contributions from a couple of newcomers in the shape of Saul Wilkes and Andrew Vaughan.

If you don't buy it we'll tell all your mates about that time you did that thing. You know what we're talking about.

Click the link below and make sure you choose the right postage options.

Villa Antifascists.

Villa Antifascists. Artigo na fashwatch.org
«Fascist’s have often used the terraces of football clubs as a recruiting ground sticklogfor foot soldiers. In the late 1980’s the BNP made a concerted attempt to recruit members and seek security from fans involved in football firms who may be sympathetic towards their far-right politics. Later in the early 1990’s the far-right drinking club of wannabe hard men called Combat 18 got much of it’s support from some of the more right wing firms, some of whom were involved in the Oldham riots of 2001.

While the BNP has cooled on it’s policy of recruiting from football grounds the emergence of the English Defence League has pushed nationalism back into the limelight at some football grounds and the group has drawn much of it’s support from right wing casuals. While the vast majority of people who go down the football treat the group with nothing but contempt and many casuals find the group divisive and misguided the involvement of a number of firms in the group shouldn’t be ignored. Despite claims to the contrary the group has attracted a number of old heads formerly involved with Combat 18 and other violent far-right gangs. The recent scuffle in London that the EDL has described as a fight between EDL vs C18 and used as an example of the groups opposition to the extreme right, was it seems more likely to be a fight between factions based around London football clubs as opposed to politics.

With the reemergence of such groups at football it’s good to hear that supporters at some football clubs are taking a stand. In the 1990’s Combat 18 made a concerted attempt to recruit supporters at Villa Park but we’re repelled by a concerted campaign by anti-facsist Villa supporters and casuals together with members of Anti-Fascist Action. Today the demonstrations by the EDL in Birmingham have reignited this anti-fascist tendency and a group calling themselves Aston Villa Anti-Fascists have been formed.

The group aim to combat any attempts by the EDL or BNP to recruit from the stands of Villa Park or the pubs around the ground and with a handful of right wing supporters who follow the Villa already involved in the EDL the timing couldn’t come sooner.

Asked about the group one die hard Villa fan commented “As an ‘Old Skool’ Villa Anti-Fascist, it’s excellent to see younger Villans taking up the fight against fascists at the Villa, every time they raise their ugly head in or around Villa Park they need to know that there is always going to people who will stand up and oppose them, as they should know from past actions. Fascists and racists have nothing to offer Villans.”

Fashwatch would like to hear from other anti-fascists who attend the football and would also appreciate any news on the EDL or BNP recruiting at your local club.»

O Manchester United morreu! Viva o Fc United de Manchester! Depois da nova economia política do futebol. Entrevista a Adam Brown.

Power, identity and fandom in football, London: Routledge, 1998. »

All Reds Rugby Roma.

«The idea of creating a rugby team with a a so suggestive name, borns from the need ton disprove one of the many preconceptions that permeate our media culture. That which ascribe to this noble sport male chuavinist tendencies or, banally fascist... We deem this strongly in contraddiction with the sporty attitude, especially if is a team sport, in particular rugby. False believes that impose a vision of the rugby player as fanatical, necessarily over the 100 kg, unable to undertake any talk which wouldn't prefigure grunts, have lead up to isolate this sport, or at least to treat it as marginal. Rugby is played with hands and feet, but mainly with the head. Loyalty and respect for the own team and the opponent, and not be thirsty for annihilate the first "enemy" on call; dignity and competetitiveness, and not honour and triumph; community in difficulty, and not individualism in glory, sociality and not individuality, this is rugby, and for this, we intend to address to all the people that get fascinated by, or intrigued, so that the deformed image that has been craeted aabout this sport could be restored. In order to recover its social and popolar value: a ball, a piece of lawn, some friends... and nothing more. Here- hence our choiche to give this undercurren to the team, because we think that spotr and society, sport and culture are not different parts of a tv program, individable components in our life. We are rugby lovers and we are confident that sport as any other human activity, is a way to make politics, in the noblest meaning of this word. Our political thought associate with ourselves, and render what we are, join us and makes us a real team. Our horizon is an oval one, and the colour of our shirt is bright red!
