Report do jogo Cliftonville - FCUM, pelo blog COME HERE TO ME.

Report do jogo Cliftonville - FCUM feita pelo blog "Come Here To Me"

«I’ve long been fascinated by F.C United of Manchester.

A football team unlike any other, they are owned by supporters and represent football in its truest form. Cheap tickets, fan culture and a sense of community. The demise of Manchester United F.C as a community entity ultimately paved the way for a club like this in Manchester, and FCUM enjoy cult like support in Manchester and beyond. The idea of seeing them take on North Belfast side Cliftonville at the West Belfast home of Donegal Celtic F.C was an appealing one, so up we went. Cliftonville FC v FC United of Manchester.

FC United have been invited to play a friendly at Cliftonville FC on Saturday 17 July 2010 with kick-off at 3pm.

Cliftonville are a fans-owned club based in Belfast, Northern Ireland and play in the IFA Premiership League, where they are currently mid-table.

Cliftonville is the oldest football club in Ireland, having been formed in 1879, which means they are celebrating their 130th anniversary this year. It is anticipated that Cliftonville will be organising social events around the game, probably on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.

Cliftonville have managed to secure sponsorship from Ladbrokes for this friendly between our two fans clubs. This enables them to fund the arrangements for the game, including the FC United team’s travel and accommodation. The winners of the match will be awarded the inaugural Ladbrokes Supporters’ Cup.

Cliftonville Chairman Gerard Lawlor was delighted to finalise arrangements for the fixture and looks forward to welcoming FC United to Belfast. He said: "We know all too well about the importance of a strong bond between the club committee, players and supporters. It’s the foundation upon which Cliftonville is built and we’re proud to be a fans-owned club, with people working voluntarily on a daily basis for the betterment of us all.

"The story of FC United is one which all football fans have followed and one which we at Cliftonville watched closely because of how similarly we operate. It’s wonderful that both of our clubs have come together to compete for the Ladbrokes Supporters’ Cup and I, like everyone at Solitude, am looking forward to not only the match but the entire occasion and the development of a relationship between our two clubs."

FC United General Manager, Andy Walsh said: "We’re delighted to accept Cliftonville’s invitation. We always enjoy the adventure of playing a Euro away and it’s an honour to play a friendly against a fellow fans-owned club. We’re looking forward to challenging ourselves against an Irish Premier League team."

Cliftonville friendly moved to Donegal Celtic's ground

Our friendly against Cliftonville on Saturday 17th July has been moved to Donegal Celtic Park in West Belfast.

Cliftonville have been extremely fortunate and have secured funding from the Irish Football Association to develop a 3G pitch at their Solitude ground. This work is due to start immediately and won’t be completed in time for our friendly, so they have arranged for the game to take place at Donegal Celtic’s ground instead. Further details can be found on Cliftonville’s website http://www.cliftonvillefc.net/news_pitch_070610.html

A representative from Cliftonville said "We’re very sorry to have to make this change of venue and we’re grateful to Donegal Celtic for their help with this, because it’s vital that we get the new 3G pitch installed as soon as possible.

"We know it will be disappointing for some fans that we’re not able to play at Solitude but we’ll still do a social function there on the Friday night before the game, so people can pay a visit to our normal home ground."

Full details of match arrangements will be announced nearer the time.

_____________________________

Please note - in case of any confusion, the match is still in Belfast, NOT in Co.Donegal.

Donegal Celtic Park is in West Belfast, about the same distance from the city centre as Cliftonville’s ground.

FCUM e Cliftonville.
